Washington AP reports the Cost of Living Council freed canned fruits and vegetables from price controls to ease shortages and spur production for 1974 75. Ten major canning firms representing about 30 percent of output pledged not to raise prices for now and to raise production up to 25 percent on certain items. About 1 223 firms 96 000 employees and 1973 sales of 4 4 billion are affected. Jam preserves retailers and wholesalers with their own canning operations remain under controls.
