FBI Says It's Up To Scott To Talk About Hearst Case
SAN FRANCISCO AP The FBI in charge of Patricia Hearst search says its talk with Jack Scott may end in his refusal to cooperate and a polite backdown. Agent Charles Bates noted there is no warrant for Scott and that he could simply decline to speak. He also denied a Berkeley high speed chase and said fingerprints on a Pennsylvania farmhouse remain unconfirmed. Bates said the Bay Area has become the focus as the case widens and noted investigators have questioned thousands since February 4 of last year. News reports of new leads and Weather Underground links were acknowledged but not confirmed.

Federal probes target oil price overcharges on utilities

Grand juries in Jacksonville, New York, and Los Angeles are already examining price manipulation by oil suppliers, with possible cases in Houston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Boston. Investigators cite mislabeling of oil origins and large potential losses, totaling tens of millions to perhaps a hundred million dollars, as utilities face scrutiny in Project Manipulator and related efforts.
