Mexico bows out of the Class A State Championship 59-54 to Time Salem. Salem led by a well coached lineup and strong free throws, while Mexico rallied early in the second half before Salem pulled away in the final minutes. Belcher led Mexico with 17 points, Campbell and Williams added 12 each, and Thoenen paced Salem with 16. The Bulldogs had previously won the district title with a 62-52 victory over Jeff City Jays amid a 25-3 season mark.

Golf Squad Opens 71 Season At Local Courses
The MHS golf squad begins practice Monday at Arthur Hills Golf Course with optional sessions at Mexico Country Club weather permitting. On Tuesday March 2 Coach Dave Bell held an organizational meeting for 21 students, including four returning lettermen, stressing dedication and optimism for a state tourney run. The team, though young, is expected to gain experience and improve with grass practice, opening the season April 5 at Centralia.
