Fair Housing Bill Dropped in Missouri Legislature

Jefferson City AP In Missouri the sponsor of a fair housing bill pulled it from the calendar after amendments weakened the measure. Rep. Fred Williams said the bill still offered a path to complainants to the state Commission on Human Rights, but opponents pushed provisions allowing landlords to seek damages from complainants and to shift costs if discrimination was not proven. A separate amendment would have required complaints to be filed by the complainant or their attorney. House leaders planned to consider constitutional changes including charity gambling and a state lottery.
