Rainfall Relief for Audrain County Crops Boosts Hope

Drought relief arrives as Audrain County farmers receive near an inch of rain, totaling 97 billion pounds and raising moisture levels. Extension agent Dale Schnarre notes two to three inches would help, as corn and soybean stands show stress. Soil moisture drops 24 inches deep in Montgomery County, and irrigation use climbs with pivot systems now common. The rainfall today doubles this month’s total and pushes year to date toward normal, though June remains well below average.
