Certification Program Changing To Meet Today's Increased Needs
ARI began certifying central air conditioning units in 1959 to standardize cooling capacity measures and prevent misleading claims. The Unitary Certification Program requires BTUh ratings, testing, and independent lab verification, with a blue white ARI Seal. Today over 95 percent of residential central cooling is certified, and energy consumption ratings are published to aid consumer comparisons. Mexico MO Ledger June 17 1974.

Add On Air Requires Research
Homeowners planning central air this spring or summer should obtain estimates from two to three reputable dealer contractors for unit size capacity and installed cost. Check installed bases by contacting previous customers, compare size calculations, and verify not just guesses. Review warranties and who pays for parts, labor, and supplies, and confirm unit details in ARI Directory of Certified Unitary Equipment for energy needs.
