Israelis Fear War Danger From Tiny Arabian Island
Israelis fear a small island in Bab al Mandab near Perim could trigger a new Middle East war by blocking the Red Sea route to Aqaba. Arabs in a speedboat fired bazookas at an Israeli oil tanker, with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claiming the attack. Prime Minister Golda Meir urged maritime powers to safeguard free navigation and warned Israel would take all necessary measures to protect shipping to its ports.

Across The Sea Kayak Adventure Ends in Tragedy
Seattle youth James Brinton, 25, a Seattle Community College student and Army Vietnam veteran, embarked alone from La Push to kayak across the Pacific to Japan. His 17-foot craft, loaded with provisions, was found intact about four miles off the Olympic Peninsula after heavy seas and strong winds. Despite searches by Coast Guard aircraft, a cutter, and local boats, officials say survival chances were slim. Brinton, an accomplished swimmer and Eagle Scout, had planned a three month journey and dreamed of becoming a teacher.

Viet Air Force Carries Brunt In Vietnam War Air War
U S and Vietnamese air forces share duties as VNAF pilots fly about twice as many South Vietnam sorties as U S aircraft. U S planes conduct most Laos missions and about 60 percent in Cambodia while plans call for VNAF to be self sufficient inside South Vietnam by next spring. American sorties dominate totals for Laos and Cambodia, with VNAF contributing mainly in February and March and little involvement in Laos during the first week of June.
