Chicago Police Rebuff Puerto Rico Disturbance Criticism
Chicago police faced criticism from Hispanic leaders over a Puerto Rican Independence Day disturbance in Humboldt Park that left two dead and more than 100 injured. Witnesses said six hours of looting fights and fires began after officers entered the park to separate rival gangs. Police Superintendent Rochford cited exchange of gunfire with a kneeling gunman as the deadly moment and said officers did not intend to shoot into the crowd. Authorities reported two men killed Julio Osorio 26 and Rafael Cruz 25, with at least four others wounded. Police arrested 119 Saturday night for mob action offenses and 15 juveniles were returned to parents.
