Missouri bill would curb patient research in state facilities
Health director Dr. Herbert R. Domke urged Gov. Bond to veto a bill that would require state health divisions to judge scientific merit of clinical research in hospitals and prisons. Critics include Missouri Medical Association president Dr. James C. Cope and deans from Missouri and St Louis medical schools plus Washington University officials. The measure requires written consent, project approval, and respect for patient withdrawal, arguing it protects patient rights.
