No Money For Patients In Homes
In Jefferson City Ap report the Missouri Mental Health Division reports a money shortage halting the transfer of about 200 state hospital patients monthly to nursing homes. About 847 mental patients are in nursing homes already with 132 of 194 examined reclassified as eligible for only 125 dollars a month in Medicaid rather than a potential 320. An adjustment on Sept 1 may let the division cover the difference to keep the program. Operators say they cannot afford more state patients. Estimated annual need is about 700 thousand dollars to sustain the nursing home program without new referrals.
