Floyd Gibson, 47, earned an A B Chance Company 30 year service award on July 15 in Centralia. Other mid July service honors went to William E Beasley of Hallsville, Joe Current of Moberly, Lonnie Elsbury of Addison, and Richard Roberts in Centralia for five years. Gibson joined Chance in the Centralia plant after Army service 1951 52 and progressed from grinder to heat treater with a four year promotion. He is a son of Fred and he has siblings Roy, Howard, and three sisters. He built a home on San Lynn Lake Road, enjoys gardening, hunting, and fishing, and attends First Baptist Church. he is an American Legion member and has four children and one grandson.
James P. Covington, son of Mr and Mrs James F Covington of 310 E Promenade, has been named manager of industrial engineering at Bendix Corporation Industrial Tools division. He oversees engineering activities at South Beloit plant and facilities in Chicago and Greenfield Mass. Covington, Purdue U graduate, previously served as staff assistant to corporate manufacturing. He and wife Candy moved to South Beloit. Bendix, a major auto aerospace and industrial supplier, employs about 900 in its division.
Commerce Bancshares Inc reported unaudited consolidated net income of 7,666,000 dollars or 1.63 per share for the six months ended June 30, 1976, up from 7,197,000 dollars or 1.50 per share for the same period in 1975. Six month income before securities gains for 1976 was 7,404,000 dollars or 1.57 per share, versus 7,160,000 dollars or 1.49 per share in 1975. Earnings per common share reflect 4,697,308 weighted average shares outstanding for 1975.
Centralia residents Lyle Baker and Roy Shelden, both drill press operators, earned 42.50 in Chance suggestion awards for two ideas on machine accessory work-saving changes. William L. Fair of Centralia received 25, with Bill Snell of Centralia and Charles Willingham of Madison getting 5 each.
Wilma Sutton of Southwestern Bell notes Missouri spent 15,687,000 in 1975 on directory assistance including equipment and wages. She says charges to all customers may exceed 16.00 per year by 1978 if calls stay high, proposing three free calls monthly with two numbers per call to curb volume.
