Jury Acquits Two Defendants In AIM Trial
Two American Indian Movement members, Robideau and Butler, were acquitted of murder in the FBI agents' deaths on Pine Ridge. They remained jailed on prior convictions. Robideau received seven 10-year terms and two five-year terms. The case stemmed from the deaths of Jack Coler and Ronald Williams during a federal warrant raid. The trial was moved to Cedar Rapids due to South Dakota docket congestion.

Judge upholds Matlovich dismissal from the Air Force
U.S. District Judge Gerhard Gesell rules the Air Force may discharge service members for homosexual acts, saying no constitutional right to engage in homosexual actions. Leonard Matlovich, a 12 year veteran and Bronze Star recipient, says he will appeal. The ruling criticizes knee-jerk responses to such cases and hints a need to reevaluate the issue.
