Sugar Prices Rise Again Amid Wholesale Increases
New York AP reports major refiners raise wholesale sugar prices for a second time this week. Amstar Corp hikes five cents per pound to 1.55 for five pounds and 3.15 for ten. National Sugar Refining Co. matches the rise. SuCrest Corp. jumps to 1.54 and 3.08. Industry says higher raw sugar costs drive the rise, linked to Midwest beet crop damage from heavy rains. Officials expect no repeat of last year’s price spiral.
