Glass-asphalt test strip to be laid in Rolla Missouri
A 60 by 20 foot glasphalt strip will be installed on a Rolla road July 10 as part of a U.S. Public Health Service sponsored research project. About 180 tons of crushed glass from the Glass Container Manufacturers Institute will be used. The test evaluates replacing sand and stone with crushed glass in asphalt paving. The strip near the UMR General Services Building will bear about 125 vehicles daily and be tested for wear and skid resistance over two years by UMR researchers led by Dr. Ward R. Malisch, Dr. Delbert E. Day, and Dr. Bobby G. Wixson.
