Lockheed Struggles On Amid Pentagon Aid and Tristar Woes
Washington AP report notes Lockheed Aircraft Corp remains financially fragile despite federal loan guarantees and British aid for Rolls Royce. A heavy debt load, a sluggish Tristar L382 engine, and weak airline orders limit recovery as defense contracts and C5A program costs rise. Lockheed continues to bid for defense projects while awaiting major aircraft buyers.

6000 Nondelegates Expected in Miami
George Rodericks, head of Civil Defense in Washington, predicts about 6000 nondelegates will attend the Democratic National Convention in Miami Beach, far fewer than earlier forecasts of 50,000 to 100,000 city officials and protest groups. He based his estimate on 10 days of talks with nondelegates’ leaders nationwide. The Democratic Convention opens July 10 with the Republican event set for August 21. Rodericks notes movement figures are financially struggling and many can only afford one trip and are saving for the GOP gathering.
