Americans Held in China Revisited in Senate Hearing

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee revisited the fate of four Americans held in China, including two civilians captured in 1952 after a plane crash and two military pilots shot down later. Jerome Cohen urged renewed charges against the Chinese and possible concessions to win their release, with the idea of securing early freedom for Downey and Fecteau. The committee plans to draft a letter urging action by the State Department along Cohen’s suggested lines.
