Number Over 240 May Be Out Of Draft
Washington AP reports the draft lottery ceiling may rise to 195 through August. Draft Director Curtis Tarr says it likely won’t rise much further this year. He notes men with numbers above 240 could be spared, as low numbers flood the pool with more college entrants. The White House had estimated last December that those numbered 120 and below would be inducted, while above 240 would likely avoid service. Pentagon revisions lowered predicted manpower needs and reduced monthly draft calls, with August calls at the year's low. Local boards were told to add only two August numbers.

KC Schools Won't Try Again On Levy
Kansas City school board announced it will not pursue another election on the proposed tax levy. For 1970-71 the board set local property taxes at 3.75 dollars, the July approved two year level. A 96 cent levy increase was rejected in the June 23 vote, failing to reach a two thirds majority. The board schedules a July 9 meeting to adjust salaries and programs to fit available funds.
