Chotiner Dies Longtime Nixon Aide Obituary
Murray M. Chotiner longtime confidant of President Nixon and former White House aide died early today at Washington Hospital Center. Officials cited pulmonary embolism as the cause with an autopsy planned. He was injured last week in a car crash near McLean Virginia but had been reported recovering. His ties to Nixon stretched back nearly three decades and included roles as Nixon's 1946 campaign publicity head, California Senate campaign manager, national campaign manager for Nixon's 1952 run for VP, and a 1968 special assistant to the presidential bid.

Shoe firm ordered to pay back wages in sex bias case
A federal judge in St. Louis ordered Gaywood Manufacturing Co. to pay $53,527 in back wages to 44 women who charged discrimination. The sums ranged from 10.80 to 1,902 dollars. Judge Roy W. Harper ruled for the female employees at the Manchester based shoe trim firm.

Chrysler To Lay Off 9500 More Workers
Chrysler Corp will lay off about 9,500 workers as it closes a Detroit plant for four weeks and an Illinois factory for two weeks to balance inventories of standard size cars. Four thousand four hundred seventy hourly workers will be idle in Belvidere Illinois and four thousand eight hundred in Detroit. All will return after the shutdowns.

US to give up Okinawa bases in major realignment
Tokyo AP reports the United States will surrender five Army and two Marine bases on Okinawa and release 12 more sites after relocating personnel. The move marks the largest return of areas to Japan since 1972, with the port base at Naha among those to be released later.
