County officials reveal a proposed year's budget totaling $940,618.05 narrowly edging toward a million as expenditures span general revenue road funds federal revenue sharing and payments for Common Districts 1 and 2. Budget notes warn growth could push the county toward second class status, prompting planned revenue reserves and cautious use of federal funds.
In Jefferson City Missouri Rep Vic Downing withdrew a campaign finance bill after amendments by Edwin Dirck would have allowed banks corporations and labor unions to contribute and advertise for candidates. The move comes as Senate House action on reorganizing bills prompts conference committee talks.

Ex White House aide Egil Krogh Jr says he was dismissed from the plumbers unit on December 13 1971 after refusing to authorize a wiretap related to India Pakistan papers. He criticizes the unit as bad management and notes he was jailed six months for the Ellsberg break in. Krogh says he did not take orders from Nixon and has no information implicating the president.
Los Angeles AP reports Secretary of State Kissinger suspects a White House plumbers probe of NSC leaks aimed to unseat him. Ehrlichman and Haldeman allegedly instigated the probe to curb Kissinger’s influence, with Haig threatening to resign to halt it.
Federal Energy Chief William E. Simon warned that a 20 percent gasoline shortage was becoming accurate while avoiding new rationing predictions. He noted a 9.8 percent drop in weekly gasoline use and said crude price rollback proposals lack endorsement though cutting to 7.5 dollars a barrel is possible.
Independent Ohio truckers protested in three areas to vent about high fuel prices and low freight rates. In Lorain County trucks stopped on State Road 18 near Wellington and drivers were urged to pull over for the night. Along U.S. Highway 20 near Oberlin, trucks also faced stops by state patrol note. In Youngstown about 300 truckers demonstrated at truck stops and factories after a rally, demanding a ceiling on fuel prices and a 25 percent across the board rate increase plus a 9 percent tariff hike, plus authority to file for rate increases themselves.
