Dirty Dollars Sell Quickly In Amsterdam

U S Treasury and Dutch police warn of phony $1 bills with pornographic images sold in Amsterdam sex shops. The counterfeit notes resemble authentic currency but feature sexual insets, displayed on racks and traded for about 2% guilders. Officials note the bills raise questions on legality and origin while a Hague embassy spokesman says no automatic international convention governs such cases. A Michigan travel center theft yields a $3 sample of fool's gold ironite grabbed from a display case.

Indian Question Still Unsolved

A 1973 survey weighs the unresolved status of Indians in mid America, tracing population shifts from census data, the federal relationship, and identity debates. It highlights rising Indian self-awareness, enduring hardship, and the clash of two cultures shaping urban, rural, and reservation life. Tomorrow: Part II—the tight circle of social and economic disadvantage.

Domestic Eagle Is Recaptured

A domesticated African tawny eagle named Ivan, missing from Laughingbrook Wildlife Center in Hampden Massachusetts for over a week, was recaptured about 100 miles away in Boxford. Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary keeper Dick Marley spotted it and lassoed it with meat on Monday. The tame bird, at least seven years old, was reported skinnier but healthy and has shown little flying behavior since its capture.
