CBS Vet Recalls Washington Days When Inaugurations Were Different
CBS veteran Robert Trout recalls Washington in 1933 during F D R's inauguration and contrasts it with Nixon era security. He describes a freer city, public White House access on New Year's, and a mood of unease followed by reassurance from F D R's speech. He notes no antiwar protests then, unlike the Nixon era demonstrations planned for inauguration day.
