DETROIT AP Ford Motor Co. plans to suspend operations at more than half of its assembly plants for a week amid a 30 percent sales slide since September 1975. Ford will lay off 52,125 workers temporarily, close 10 of 14 car plants, seven of nine truck plants and five of 46 factories until Jan. 20, with 2,925 indefinite layoffs beginning next week for a total of about 32,600 open furloughs. Chrysler GM also announce large next-week layoffs while American Motors returns 13,000 workers after one-week layoffs.
