Missouri passes plan on unemployment aid in tense session
Missouri Senate and House reconvened with the Employment Security bill under debate to meet federal requirements. Gov. Warren Hearnes and business groups push for the measure, warning that failure could cost about 140 million dollars annually in payroll taxes and leave jobless workers without 13 weeks of extra compensation. Senator Cason said the record would stay open to place the bill on the calendar for Tuesday and possible Wednesday passage. The session included discussion of amendments favored by labor groups to end the waiting week and to pay during a company lockout.
