Meir Sees Talks Unchanged After Libyan Airliner Downing
TEL AVIV AP Premier Golda Meir left for the United States saying the downing of a Libyan airliner by Israeli fighters last week would not affect talks with President Nixon. Meir, 74, looked tired and dodged most questions, promising she would disclose details on return. In Washington, Abba Eban said priority would be proximity peace talks with Arabs, a plan previously tried by UN mediator Gunnar Jarring. In Beirut, Nayef Hawatmeh urged Palestinians in Lebanon to pack and go, while warning that true vengeance requires targeting U.S. oil interests. He spoke at a mass rally marking his group’s fourth anniversary.
