Unions pledge fight on Carter wage policy
AFL-CIO chief George Meany says the union will oppose President Carter's voluntary pre-notification system for wage and price increases. He calls it a foot in the door to controls, while praising Carter's cooperation on legislative goals. Meany criticizes the economic stimulus plan but notes support for some Cabinet appointments. Labor leaders planned to set priorities including labor-law reforms, a higher minimum wage, and bargaining rights for public workers. Labor Secretary Marshall, visiting Miami Beach, offered no administration commitments despite support on many issues.
