Court Will Review Hughes And Pentagon Paper Cases
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a $165 million default judgment against Hughes Tool Co in favor of Trans World Airlines, stemming from antitrust actions in the 1950s. The court also granted review on whether a federal grand jury may question aides of Senator Mike Gravel and other parties about arrangements for publication of the Pentagon Papers, with debate over congressional immunity versus grand jury authority. Other actions include cases on bankruptcy filing fees and tenant discrimination suits, while Amtrak challenges were denied.

Gas Supply Outlook Tied to FPC Pricing, Says Panhandle Official
K D Heying of Panhandle Eastern Pipeline told the Mexico Kiwanis Club that unrealistically set Federal Power Commission policies are driving up natural gas prices and limiting service. He said U S gas reserves are shrinking while demand rises, with drilling falling by over 25 percent in a decade and consumption nearly doubling. Potential reserves exceed 1 200 trillion cubic feet, production about 23 Tcf, and development will be costly and years away in remote offshore and deep areas. Panhandle has invested over 50 million dollars in the last two years and plans more projects including offshore Louisiana, Rocky Mountains, Canadian Arctic, and synthetic gas from coal and imported liquids.
