R-1 Keeps Busy Schedule North Callaway FFA
The R-1 North Callaway FFA Chapter completed many activities including a Rodeo Barbeque for freshmen, sack and barrel races, a summer FFA Camp, a campout, Officers Workshop in Kirksville, a October Parent and Son Banquet, and Greenhands initiation. Six officers attended the National Convention in Kansas City, visited the American Royal, toured a GM assembly plant, and the chapter donated a portable 72 by 22 inch walnut panel counter with a Formica top to the school for gate money.

Gun Safety Discussed By Community FFA In Columbia
Over two years the Community RVI FFA Chapter joined the ROTC Gun Safety Program and shooting match at the ROTC building in October. Attendees included Monte Hanson Richard Fendrick Doug Norton John Aston Bill Hale and Adviser Clarence Ray. Major Townsend and ROTC students from the University hosted and lectured on gun safety and showed related films.Participants tested for the NRA Safe Hunter Award and were signed up for NRA Hunter Safety cards and patches. Community placed seventh of fourteen in the team competition after a basement shooting gallery match.

FFA Presents Gilt Award To Greenhand Steve Goshorn
Each October the FFA chapter awards a gilt to a deserving Greenhand after evaluating farm facilities and a personal essay. This year’s recipient is Steve Goshorn of Laddonia, son of Mr and Mrs William Goshorn. The gilt, already bred to a registered Duroc boar, will furrow her pigs in early February and will be presented to a Greenhand next year. The prior gilt recipients include Dennis Hooke 1968, Gene Trower 1969, Gary Schutte 1970, and Bob Swaim 1971. Steve will donate his future best gift back to the chapter.
