In 1954 Melanie Monk was elected Student Council president at MHS for the coming year. She is joined by vice president Mary Friedberg secretary Tom Lankford and treasurer Kelly Williams. It marks the first such junior-elected slate in five years and the first time in over two decades that juniors held Stu‑Col office.

Robyn Beamer Named National Merit Finalist
Robyn Beamer is named a National Merit Finalist in the 1975 competition, one of 14 000 finalists. The selection process runs mid-March to early May with about 3 500 finalists to be notified as Merit winners. Beamer participates in Band Choir Madrigal National Honor Society Spanish Club Student Council and other activities while active in church and community work.

Mexico NHS Plans 50th Anniversary Celebration
The Mexico Chapter of the National Honor Society marks its 50th anniversary with a Sunday program and reception on April 20. Letters went to members across classes urging contact with peers, while past members and sponsors are acknowledged. The original charter included Louis Leslie and others. School will be closed February 17 for Washington's Birthday and March 7 for a teachers workshop.

Mrs. Ellen Wilson announced cheerleader tryouts for next year’s varsity, junior varsity, and sophomore squads. Eligible girls must have at least one year on Pep Squad and should contact her now. Practice sessions run Wednesdays 7:15 to 8:15 a.m., and a meeting for prospective cheerleaders and parents is set for 7 p.m. next Monday in the MHS Library.

A 16 student committee presented a Wednesday assembly under the national theme Fulfilling America's Promise for Negro History Week February 9 16.
