The Kansas City Chiefs football stars Stick Buchanan Emmitt Thomas Warren McVea and Bobby Bell will play the Commerce Bankers in a charity basketball game in Mexico on February 21. The Chiefs, led by Buck Buchanan averaging 19 points per game, hold a 21 11 record with teammates Dave Hill Mike Livingston Jim Kearney Chuck Hurston and Caesar Belser. The Bankers team comprises MHS coaches and staff including McFarland Bancroft Green Ligon Cun diff Valentik Straube and Assistant Principal Wilkinson. Sponsored by the Booster Club the game starts at 8 00 p m with advance tickets at 2 00 and 2 50 at the door.
Four wrestlers Randy Ezeli Mike Miller Ben Given and Dennis Ardell compete in the Jefferson City regional tournament weekend seeking state berths. Ezeli claimed district unlimited title with a 27 second pin. Miller finished second at 126 pounds while Given and Ardell placed fourth. State playoffs move to Lees Summit next Friday and Saturday.
The Freshman A team finished 10-8 with wins over Montgomery City Bowling Green Fulton Helias Centralia Boonville and Moberly and losses to Hannibal Moberly Centralia Jeff City and West Junior. Dennis DeBondt led with 182 points, Mike Long 163, and Russel Williams 151 as team totaled 827 points. The Freshman B squad went 10-2 with wins over Hannibal Moberly Centralia Fulton Jeff City and Helias, led by Clyde Oligschlaeger with 97 points. The coach praised the players potential as they move toward varsity play.
