The Boston Celtics, playing at a blistering tempo, swept a weekend series with the New York Knicks 126-102 at Madison Square Garden and 105-88 at Boston Garden, propelled by Dave Cowens’s return with 25 points 20 rebounds and six assists. Coach Tommy Heinsohn credited the pace and intensity for the surge as Boston extended its strong run to 13 wins in 14 games. Other NBA results: Pistons edged Lakers 97-96, Braves beat Sonics in OT 99-93, 76ers toppled Bulls 109-97, Rockets downed Trail Blazers 102-92.
