Turner May Face Tough Questioning From Senate
Adm. Stansfield Turner, Carter’s second choice to head the CIA, may face Senate grilling as conservatives oppose a military head of the agency. Senators Byrd and Baker said no strong opposition exists, with hearings not yet set. Turner, 53, and Carter, both Naval Academy graduates, differ in career paths and views on military independence of the CIA.
