No-Till On Heavy Soil Cuts Yields
Purdue eight year study shows tillage affects corn yields by soil type and drainage. Well drained soils favor no till. poorly drained heavy clays lose yield with no till. Fall plowing helps such soils. disc and shallow tillage vary. No till reduces erosion but can worsen crusting and nitrogen loss on heavy, low organic matter, sloping fields.
