Peace Dividend Vanishes in Inflation Wave
Washington AP reports the so called peace dividend is a myth as inflation erodes anticipated gains. Pentagon comptroller Moot says peak 1968 Vietnam costs were 20 billion yearly, dropping to about 10 billion by year end, yet defense spending will rise next year per Defense Secretary Laird. Expenses from pay raises and retirement pay offset savings and inflation raises the cost of goods and services.
