Striking miners roam Alabama as violence erupts
About 1,000 United Mine Workers strikes roamed across northeastern Alabama and eastern Kentucky in the third week of a nationwide stoppage. In Pisgah Alabama strikers attacked Sand Mountain Minerals Pit No 2, burning a mining office and damaging vehicles while deputies warned non union mines to close. Sheriff Bob Collins reported 200 to 300 protesters clashed with workers leaving Pit No 2, leaving several people injured. State troopers were dispatched to Alabama to help maintain order amid the widespread disruption reaching West Virginia and Kentucky.
