Humbard’s Cathedral Works On Plan After Selling Restrictions
Columbus AP reports Rev Rex Humbard’s Cathedral of Tomorrow and Ohio Commerce seek a plan to keep the multimillion dollar religious and business empire running after the department ordered the cathedral to stop selling securities. Commerce Director Dennis Shaul said the cathedral must voluntary halt sales or face court action. The organization has sold bonds for Mackinac College and other security plans since the 1950s, with six states ordering a halt. Humbard’s empire also includes a girdle factory and printing shop in Akron and religious broadcasts from his studios. An October audit found the group in a negative net worth position, and Akron attorney Charles Iden outlined a possible restructuring to comply with the law.

Ohio to act by December on end to apparent violations
Shaul pledged a December 30 announcement on steps by Ohio and neighboring states to halt suspected law breaches and shield investors. Iden noted many knew sales were improper yet questioned why administrators must comply when other charities do the same. He accused Humbard of copying literature and contracts from others, though he added it does not excuse the conduct and that others shared similar practices.
