In Mexico Public Schools January 5, 1976 reconvenes. Miss Bonnie Schumer's fifth graders elect Sean Hess president Jenny Potts vice president Kathy Schwartze secretary. Perfect scores on spelling tests in Miss Virginia Rush's third grade at Eugene Field include Toni Arnold Kimberly Bealmear Scott Brooker Boyce Gilreath Beth Maupin Jerry Parker Darren Troy and Barry White. Good Citizen honors go to Barry White Toni Arnold Donny Troy Jo Lynn Miller Bob Boyce and Darren Thompson. McMillan students perform a Thanksgiving play with readings by Sammie Helm Jerry Jones Wayne Herman Tina Herndon Sean Phillips. First graders show writing habits in Mrs. Williams' class Brian Thomas Joyce Johnson Dean Wilson. Fifth graders in room 113 begin a Bicentennial quilt project supervised by Mrs. Opal Forman. The Christmas season brings a Sing Around the Christmas Tree and carols. A Bethlehem nativity piece by Adam Benjamin and Patricia Belcher shares the Christmas story. Snow themes and holiday poetry by Darren Heaton and Jody Shupert reflect season cheer. A list of student voices includes Earl Ingram Anne Ekern Troy George Andrea Forbis Teresa Cloven Tony Isgrig Jeff Houf Darren Smith Patricia Clay.
The school thanks donors including the Jaycee Wives for a stroller and the Masons for a crawler and equipment. A rug funded by First Christian Church aids therapy sessions. Visitors from Hannibal region, University Medical Center staff, and local groups share holiday greetings and patient updates. John Randall may return home before Christmas as treatment continues at University Medical Center.
