Slurry Coal Pipeline Definite Planned Across States

Paul Haerle of Energy Transportation Systems Inc says a 211036 mile slurry coal pipeline from Campbell County Wyoming to White Bluff Arkansas will be built. The line would carry powdered coal in water to power plants with spur to northeast Kansas and possible routes to Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Construction hoped within two years pending Kansas Legislature action on eminent domain to acquire land for crossing railroad tracks.

Mobile Home Fire Kills 2 in Irondale

Aliyah Sparks and her husband Sandra Joe, both in their early twenties, died in a mobile home fire in Irondale Missouri. A 10‑month‑old boy, Jason, was found outside in freezing temperatures and survived with facial and hand burns after being rushed to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Investigators suspect the blaze began in the furnace area and a neighbor reported the flames shortly after 6 a.m. The trailer’s roof had caved in by the time responders arrived. Irondale lies about 50 miles southwest of St. Louis.

Petroleum Firms Urge Greater Access to Federal Lands

Wilson M. Laird of the American Petroleum Institute told the Interstate Oil Compact Commission in Santa Fe that the energy industry needs more access to federal lands to support national energy independence. He cited Interior Department data showing about 800 million acres owned by the federal government, much of it in the West, with 62 percent closed or restricted. He noted many withdrawn areas exclude oil and gas development as policy and stressed oil and gas can be developed with proper environmental controls.
