Wholesale Prices Jump Signals Inflation Challenge
Washington AP November wholesale prices rose six tenths of a percent, the largest gain since July, undoing recent slower increases. Increases in vegetables, eggs, dairy, cars, furniture, lumber, leather, textiles, coal, hides, natural gas, and other goods pushed the index up. The rise complicates Nixon's goal to slow inflation to about 3 percent by year end and tests the fate of wage and price controls due to expire next April.
