New Farm Definition Redraws Rural Farm Status
Washington AP reports a government redefinition of farming that classifies many small farms as rural nonfarm residents. USDA data show owners with under $1,000 yearly sales now account for tiny share of land and sales, while Rep. Andrew Young argues the change affects self reliance and quality of life. The shift moves many predominantly Southern black farms from farm to welfare rolls, with Mississippi Alabama Georgia seeing large portions reclassified overnight.
