Lung Cancer Seen As National Calamity By Doctor
Dr Bernard Roswit warned at the Radiological Society of North America meeting that lung cancer weighs as a national calamity with 91,000 expected cases and 81,000 deaths in 1975. He cited VA hospital data showing limited benefit from surgery, drugs, or radiation, with only 3.8 percent alive after two years and 1.5 percent after five among 1,279 patients studied. He noted 98 percent of the 8,000 patients were cigarette smokers.
