Vandalia announces the engagement of Barbara Beard of San Jose California to Craig Stephan of San Jose. Barbara Beard is a University of Santa Clara graduate with a BS in psychology and an elementary teaching credential. she plans a master's in learning disabilities. Craig Stephan is chairman of the English Department at Pioneer High School in San Jose with a BA from Westminster College and a master's from San Jose State University. Wedding plans are incomplete.

Gima Family Trip Highlights Okinawa Homecoming
Mr and Mrs Dick C Gima of Vandalia return from a two month Okinawa trip their first homeland visit since 1970. They celebrated the 688th birthday of Mrs Niya Gima with about 360 at a dinner dance and entertainment. They visited Disneyland Expo 70 Moon Beach Havwali and Guam. Mr Gima teaches elementary art at Van Far School.

Raymond E Cox state senator elect for the eleventh Missouri district and Audrain County farmer since 1916 is honored by the Audrain County Historical Society as an outstanding citizen. Born Feb 7 1696 he joined the legislature 1928 32 and married Joyselee Walker in 1915. He died July 2 1971 survived by his second wife Novella Purdom Cox.
