Tax Chairman Warns of Property Tax Lid statewide
Missouri faces a potential two to threefold rise in property taxes without a state lid, warned State Tax Commission chair Robert Love after a St. Louis County reassessment order. He urged a freeze at or below one third of fair market value to offset assessment increases, noting annual adjustments to stay at the level. County and state officials cited long-standing underassessment and rising bills, while Mercer County voters rejected a 15 cent hospital district levy to aid Axtell Community Hospital in Princeton.
