Democrats Split Over Charter At Two Day Conference

The Democratic Charter Commission in Kansas City ended its two day meeting with a walkout by Black and reform minded members over an amendment to delegate selection and a bid to revive unit rule. Tensions rose as regulars and reformists clashed on affirmative action inclusion for minorities and women. Chairman Terry Sanford adjourned with 73 members present, sending seven unacted articles to the Mid-Term Convention in December. A dissident vow to return with reinforcements followed. Willie Brown warned the move aids Republicans in 1976. Mrs. Frank Pennington of Wellsville was also reported dismissed from Audrain Medical Center after a stillbirth and post‑delivery complications.

West Germany's inflation success masks lingering worries

West Germany holds the lowest inflation among major industrial nations while citizens fear price shocks. The Brandt and Schmidt governments imposed May 1972 antiinflation measures including tax surcharges, housing tax relief reductions, and higher interest rates to curb money in circulation. Despite a 7.2 percent price rise, Germany outpaced by far other nations and faces unemployment rises and auto sector strain, though export surpluses and strong reserves cushion future shocks.
