Marines Bought Faulty Units in Vietnam Conflict
A House Armed Services subcommittee report accuses a tangled contractor influence over Marine Corps personnel of selling hundreds of defective electric generators to the U.S. government for Vietnam. The generators, built by Consolidated Diesel Electric Co., failed within seven months, possibly contributing to casualties, and the case has been referred to the Justice Department for possible prosecution. The Pentagon said the Marine Corps may exclude Consolidated from future contracts as reviews continue.
