Study urges heavier police bullets for better stopping power

A government study funded by the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration suggests police consider higher stopping power ammunition, favoring a relative incapacitation index of 10 to 25. It notes the .44 Magnum 200 grain hollow point offers the highest stopping power, while .307 Magnum and other high speed rounds rank higher than 25. It also finds hollow points less likely to fully penetrate and ricochet to bystanders. The report stops short of naming a specific bullet.
