Mo-Con Concrete Plant workers end strike after agreeing to a three year contract. The pact provides 40 cent raise in year one and 35 cent in years two and three, plus 10 cents more for health and welfare. Retroactive pay clause is dropped. Agreement covers three company employees, three Teamsters, six Laborers, and takes effect immediately.

Doctor shoots intruders in office killing daughter of patient
Dr Ralph N Cooke fired a shotgun at three intruders in his Elkin North Carolina office early Wednesday Morning fatally wounding Sherri Teresa Guyer 18 years after delivering her. Jimmy Wayne Luffman 22 was arrested on felonious breaking and entering charges. another suspect remained at large. The physician said he slept in the office due to recent burglaries and that the girl's father expressed anger after the incident. No charges were filed against Cooke.

Missing Woman Identified Near Missouri River Bridge
The body of 31 year old Barbara Crabtree of Saint Clair was found Thursday in a wooded area north of Washington near the Missouri River bridge. Deputies found a strap around her neck and an autopsy was set to determine the cause of death. Crabtree had been missing since Tuesday.

Kidnap Victim Found Killed By Abductors In Chattanooga
Dr. Robert Elliott, 38, a pediatric dentist, was abducted at gunpoint by two masked men from his Chat tanooga home while his wife and three sons watched. His body was found in the trunk of his car on a nearby mine road. he had been shot in the back of the head and an arm with a .38 caliber pistol. Police hunt two men as wife and children remained unharmed.

US Opposes 200 Mile Offshore Zone at Seas Conference
The United States rejected a nine nation plan for a 200 mile offshore economic zone saying it fails to guarantee freedom of navigation. Ambassador John Stevenson urged that high seas freedoms be preserved and transit through straits be allowed. The draft by Canada, Chile, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand and Norway prompted Washington to seek free transit and access for foreign fleets in other countries zones. The conference has met since June 20 to draft a comprehensive sea law treaty.

Escondido California AP Sampson the 300 pound African lion will live at actor James Brolin’s 230 acre San Fernando Valley ranch within 10 days. Imperial Kennels donated the lion after the couple who left him at the kennel in January did not reclaim him. The lion is declawed and would not survive roaming with other lions.
