Missouri Senate Holds Pay Boost, Prison Funds in Limbo
In Jefferson City Mo an emergency funding bill and a measure to raise legislators salaries stalled in committees while a Senate approved public employee retirement bill advanced to the House floor. A witness immunity bill cleared a Senate committee heading for debate. Conferees from Senate appropriations walked out after impasses over prison funding and a proposed mobile breast cancer detection program drawing objections over radiation and untested efficacy. The pay raise bill would lift pay from 4400 to 12400 annually while a retirement plan would let retirees serve as advisors with salary gaps paid from retirement increases. A House bill to raise the sales tax to four percent was acknowledged dead for this session.
