Garbage to Power: Menlo Park Plant Turns Trash Into Electricity
A new eight million dollar five year pilot in Menlo Park converts unsegregated domestic garbage into electricity. The plant aims to process 80 tons daily, generating about 1000 kilowatts with tests at 975 kilowatts, and envisions CPU-400 factories producing 12,000 kilowatts from 400 tons daily with no air pollution. Senior officials from the United States EPA, Senator Gale McGee, and engineers from Monaco and the Soviet Union observed. The system shreds and separates trash, uses burnable material to drive a turbine, and recovers metals, glass, ash, and other commodities for resale.
