Ford Friend Seeks To Avert Farm Bill Veto

A political associate of President Ford leads a push to avert a veto of a farm price supports bill. Rep. Albert H. Quie and Rep. Charles Thone gathered House signatures urging Ford to reject Butz advice to veto. The bill passed 248 to 166, short of a veto override. Price targets would raise dairy and meat costs, while critics warn of higher federal spending and controls. Butz indicated he may raise loan rates if vetoed.
