Two pilots Kenneth Pingel and Marvin Colyer reported chasing a glowing disc near Farmington Missouri on April 12. The object described as circular off white turning yellow and orange moved toward and away at high speed before vanishing. University scientists study the Piedmont area sightings as part of a broader regionwide UFO investigation.

Elsberry body tied to Feb jail escape in St. Louis
Dennis Cox, 26, identified as one of 12 escapees from the St. Louis City Jail who broke out Feb 2 by sawing bars. Cox was found shot five times in a drainage ditch near Elsberry, about 60 miles north of St. Louis. Sheriff Arlie Creech said four escapees remain at large and a suspect is being sought.

Laser beams to transmit AP pictures
The Associated Press unveils Laserphoto a laser based picture receiving system enabling high speed wire transmission and electronically stored dark rooms at MIT developed in two years. The system will deliver glossy photo quality prints without liquids and is slated for installation starting 1974 replacing existing receivers within a two year production run. AP serves 1259 newspapers and 3387 broadcast stations and has won numerous Pulitzers for its photo reporting.
